In this “Dark Horse” series, we turn our heads to the Philippine women’s national football team, the Malditas, and their goal to win one match and tie one match in the upcoming 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup in April.
The 2018 AFC (Asian Football Confederation) Women’s Asian Cup-bound squad is raring to prove that they are ready to kick more balls and win for the Philippines. The AFC competition will be from April 6 to 22, in Jordan.
The Philippine women’s national football team (rank #69) got the biggest break when they ended up drawing Group A for the April 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, joining Jordan (50), China (13), and Thailand (29), instead of Group B, composed of champion Japan (8), runner-up Australia (6), and Korea Republic (15).
This is the closest the Philippines has ever gotten to a FIFA World Cup stint.
