When days become longer than nights, and the cool wind succumbs to the rising temperature—all while everyone plans their out-of-town trips—it is without a doubt summer season.
The sun is now upon us, and whether we beat the heat or just find a way to bear with it, here’s a few of the summer must-have-and-try to survive and enjoy the season!
In summer, everyone wears an attire that is as casual as it can get, and no other outfit becomes ever more relevant than comfy footwear. Who would want to brave the outdoors barefooted?
Bannering its newest campaign, “#SmilePassItOn: Light Someone Else’s Life with the Power of Smile,” Sanuk comes back to the Philippines with its Spring and Summer 2018 collection. Globally known for its unique footwear with funky and carefree sense of style, Sanuk’s return comes with its latest innovations: Chiba Quest Knit that gives weightless feel on the feet and the Yoga Sling that guarantees cushion in every step.
Sanuk is a Thai word that means ‘fun’, and the brand lives up to the definition as it aims to share the feeling of happiness and positivity through what it deems to be the most comfortable sandals one will ever wear.
For Skin Care
Fear the sun no more.
Considered as one of the most trusted and sought after skincare brands in Asia, Japan’s Biore brings its newest UV skincare line to the Philippines.
Biore introduces two variants of body care serums: the extra moist (for moisturization) and the intensive white (for whitening). While they serve their purpose as sunscreens, the serums’ function is not limited to protecting the skin from direct exposure to the sun, as they also form an anti-pollution shield. Unlike lotions, serum-based products are water-proof and sweat-proof, which guarantee a non-sticky feel. They are also more lightweight and fast-absorbing.
Practicing dermatology for roughly ten years, Amelyn Ishihara-Lim, MD was among the invited experts during the Biore launch. She said that taking care of the skin is necessary as it is the primary organ that protects the human body. “Direct exposure to the sun causes dark spots, freckles, and sunburn. It is dangerous as it may lead to premature aging, or worse, skin cancer, which is why I believe that UV skin protector should be part of our everyday regimen,” she revealed.
Another skincare brand famous for its science-based sun protection products reveals a new line of skincare items expertly developed to protect the skin against the sun’s harmful effects. Driven by its proposition that ‘smart can be beautiful too,’ Celeteque unveils DermoScience Sun Care that comes with two new products.
The Sun Care Matte Moisturizer provides double sunscreen protection as it hydrates the skin. Instead of an oily, heavy, and sticky feeling, Matte Moisturizer is absorbed by the skin and leaves a matte finish. The Face and Body Sun Defense Spray, on the other hand, is a lightweight alternative that differs from the commonly dense sunscreen formula, not leaving a layer of white residue on top of the skin after applying.
For Fitness (and Food)
If only the scorching heat of the sun actually burns fats.
But with the newly-opened food park located in Taft Avenue, Pasay, people get to do two things that don’t usually come together: to feast, and to get fit. Under one roof, Taft Food by the Court brings together two Filipino favorite pastimes, eating and shooting hoops.
Diners can choose from a vast sumptuous choices—local dish, Korean, Japanese, Mexican and Southern American, Persian, among others—without having to worry about the calorie count. After feasting on the meals and taking a break, diners can change to their sportswear and play in one of the three courts (two covered and one outdoor) situated in the same area.
“Unlike other food parks, we have something to offer more than food. They can come here and engaged themselves with sports. We will be opening badminton courts. We will soon have areas allocated for billiards and darts, and maybe some board games, also a section dedicated for videoke rooms,” Paul Elauria said, President of Subic Bay Development Corporation which manages the ‘by the court’ food parks in Manila.
