No he is not Peter Parker.
Meet Gerald Verosil, 17, born in Manila, Philippines, now based in Singapore.
Gerald started rock climbing four and a half years ago as introduced by his two siblings. He fell in love with it because it gives him a unique sense of adventure, and it’s a total body workout; exercising the core, flexibility, and finger strength. Not to mention it also is a mental game as one has to learn to read routes well.
There are three types of rock climbing—lead, speed, and boulder. Gerald’s favorite is boulder climbing.
In such a short time, Gerald has been able to go against the best of Singapore annually, such as in the prestigious Gravical Pumpfest Boulderactive and Rock Master.
Internationally, he’s competed in the Asian Youth Championship in 2015 and 2017, the ASEAN Climbing Circuit in Thailand, and the Asian Cup in Hong Kong last March, where he won his first gold for team Philippines.
In spite of this early success, Gerald knows that it’s only the beginning. His biggest motivations are his failures and his desire to defy expectations.
Graduating from secondary school by the end of the year, Gerald wants to take up Journalism in college. But his ultimate dream is to be a world bouldering champion.
Sport climbing will make its Olympic debut in Tokyo, Japan, in 2020.
