4. He made a world record with a 472-kg deadlift
In the recent Arnold Strongman Classic, which he also won for the first time last March, Björnsson not only defeated Brian Shaw—a three-time winner in the US contest—he also did it in convincing fashion. He beat the previous Elephant Bar deadlift record: 468 kg, set a year ago. For a little perspective, Björnsson’s 472-kg world record is equivalent to 1,041 pounds, or nine average-sized adult Filipinos.
5. His poisons of choice are vodka and gin
Even after he’s done winning and breaking records as a strongman, Björnsson is set for life with the Icelandic Mountain Spirits, which he co-founded with his friends. It seems like a great investment given the marketability of alcohol to Bjornsson’s biggest fans. The best part about it is the collection is actually quite good, having won the 2017 Gold medal for the Mountain Vodka and Silver medal for the Eagle Gin, as given by Tastings.com.
Check out Björnsson as he stars in their own vodka commercial:
6. He has a pet Pomeranian that’s also a winner
It takes a special man to own a Pomeranian and name it Asterix. Here, Björnsson poses a winning photo with the cute floof for good measure:
Don’t be fooled, this Pomeranian is outdoorsy, with a lot of play time spent on the hills of Iceland, even when covered in ice.
Also we know all of these because the dog has its own Instagram, which currently has 24.7K followers and documented Facetime moment with Jon Snow.
And one last thing we found out about Asterix is that it’s not only a good, friendly dog, it’s a one-time best puppy in a dog show as well. Influenced by Björnsson? We think so, too.
