His eyes. That’s the one physical feature that Century Tuna 2018 Superbods winner Jules Aquino says he can’t live without. “Without them,” he says, “I won’t be able to see art in all its forms.”
Being a visual person, Jules confesses he likes seeing movement. And what other activity can make you move more than running? That’s why in the recent launch of the Adidas Solar Boost, where the 25-year-old co-captain of Adidas Runners Manila participated in, we got to ask him about his love for the sport:
WHAT MAKES RUNNING DIFFERENT?
There are a lot of things you can do with running. You’re not limited to one place. You can go anywhere. There’s a big running community worldwide. When you’re a runner, it connects you to other people.
HOW DO YOU FEEL AFTER EVERY RUN?
Great. My main goal is to be the fittest I can be, and it feels good knowing that I’m working toward that goal. At the same time, being part of Adidas Runners, I get to help other people achieve the same thing.
WHEN DID YOUR FITNESS JOURNEY BEGIN?
I grew up in the States, and I moved around several times. Wherever I went, I learned how to play a new sport. I learned how to swim, played American football, basketball, even wrestling, and a whole bunch of other things like gymnastics. I did track and field in UP Diliman. Fitness for me has just been fun, and any kind of fitness forms you do, or any kind of sport you do, they’re a great way to get in shape.
YOUR INSTAGRAM BIO STATES, “KEEP ON KEEPIN’ ON.” WHAT DOES THAT MEAN TO YOU?
I want to be the fittest I can be. And having a goal makes me want to push the limit. It’s a never ending goal, and an endless journey to improve. If you really want to get somewhere, you have to keep going.
YOU ALSO SAID THAT FITNESS SHOULD BE FUN, HOW DO YOU INCORPORATE THE FUN IN YOUR FITNESS ROUTINES?
Competing for me is fun. I meet new people and make new friends. Fitness is also fun because I get to be versatile, as I’m able to go anywhere and do anything I want.
AS A ‘FITSPIRATION’, WHAT’S YOUR MESSAGE TO THOSE WHO FOLLOW YOUR JOURNEY?
Just have a goal, and have fun. And make sure you’re doing it with people that you enjoy being around with because it’s going to make everything so much easier. Other people see fitness or working out as a chore, like they’re doing it for the sake of getting fit, or they’re doing it for the summer. I think it’s not a holistic goal.
DO YOU CONSIDER HEALTH AND WELLNESS AS FORMS OF ART, TOO?
Everything about fitness is movement. There’s like a pattern that everyone has to practice, and even perfect.
