Which team do you think will make it to this season’s Final Four?
The second round of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Men’s Basketball Seniors Division began earlier last week. Some teams seem to be peaking at the right time, proving their mettle when it matters.
The question is which of those four top teams would you not consider dangerous?
What are the odds of history repeating itself with the same Final Four teams facing off with the same seeds as last season? That would be Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) as the number one seed, De La Salle University (DLSU) at second, Adamson University (AdU) at third, and Far Eastern University (FEU) bringing up the rear.
Since we have brought up the topic of the Final Four, we may as well make a fearless forecast on which teams will make it according to seeds. Here are our picks:
1st Seed: ADMU
Coach Tab Baldwin has pronounced before the start of the season that Ateneo has a “wealth of talent.” It has taken time for all that talent to jell. Seeing Angelo Kouame running down the floor and then finishing with a dunk, we are inclined to think the pieces are coming together for the Blue Eagles.
2nd Seed: ADU
We have to remember that the Falcons’ early winning streak included games decided in the final seconds. Eventually, they lost first to FEU then DLSU—both in overtime matches. Last season, AdU rallied in their final game and was just frustrated by the calls—or the breaks of the game. Seeing Sean Manganti and Jerrick Ahanmisi with uncommon confidence, this might be the Falcons’ season to soar.
3rd Seed: DLSU
After losing to their arch-rival ADMU, the Archers have racked up a number of wins to jump into a tie for second with FEU, both having 5-2 win-loss record. They seem to be peaking at the right time.
4th Seed: FEU
This team has shown that great outside shooting can win the day even without their big man Arvin Tolentino, who was disqualified in the overtime game against Adamson. He was playing well, too. Jasper Parker is another Tamaraw who could carry the team except that he sometimes loses control of the ball at crucial moments.
This is all just fun speculation. In tightly competitive games, the seeds can change without a moment’s notice.
