You might just need to binge watch these films to start your own journey of active lifestyle.
Creed II is coming to theaters this November. Michael B. Jordan returns to the big screen as the phenomenal Adonis Creed, after pulling off an incredible performance as Killmonger in Black Panther. He is joined by Sylvester Stallone who plays as his iconic coach Rocky Balboa. The first movie brought back the hype of sports-themed films, not only delving into great stories of underdogs overcoming the odds, but inspiring people to pursue active lifestyle.
From Coach Carter to Remember the Titans, the film industry is not short of great sports films that motivated people both emotionally and physically. Here’s a list of some favorites that are guaranteed to make your heart leap—both as you watch, and when you finally start your own journey toward wellness:
The film that Creed spins off from is one that people will never forget. Rocky is the perfect example of a rags-to-riches story, almost a reflection of actor Sylvester Stallone, whose career skyrocketed with the film’s popularity. Rocky is not merely a sports film, it is a love story; Rocky and Adrian are sure to make you swoon. Though the sequels are not as amazing (until Creed), the life of Rocky Balboa is a great inspiration for those who are trying to make a name for themselves. Plus, imagine working out to “Eye Of The Tiger” whenever you’re at the gym; isn’t that a great motivation push?
Karate Kid (1984)
“Wax on, wax off.” Admit it, at least once you’ve tried Mr. Miyagi’s so-called lessons. Karate Kid is a great motivational movie because it teaches that training can come from anywhere as long as it’s grounded on patience and discipline. Friendship triumphs revenge in this beloved film as Danny and Mr. Miyagi’s relationship grows stronger than any mentorship ever seen. Who would have thought that doing basic household chores could make you a badass martial arts fighter?
Space Jam (1996)
If you haven’t seen Space Jam, you haven’t lived. The greatest basketball player ever to grace the NBA crosses paths with Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Tunes gang. How can anyone not enjoy it? While the story is laughable, just like any Looney Tunes feature, and the game is unbelievable to say the least, the hidden theme Space Jam shows is that we never lose our game. It’s a message to everyone that just because you’ve stopped playing or working out, doesn’t mean it’s the end of the road for you. Just find the time and you’ll be back in the groove to winning your personal NBA three-peat, thanks to a game with the Monstars.
The Mighty Ducks (1992)
There isn’t any hockey film more iconic than Disney’s The Mighty Ducks. Put a bunch of rowdy kids from Minnesota together with a passionate lawyer with a temper. What do you get? The best hockey team of your childhood. The Mighty Ducks shows that while sports are competitive and all, they’re also supposed to be fun. Seeing the Ducks just enjoying their practices and games is a great push for kids and adults alike to give hockey—or any sport for that matter—a try. What’s the point of playing if you’re not having fun?
