Philippines’ bet in the Miss Universe 2018 seems to have it all.
Miss Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray stunned the universe during the preliminary competition of the international beauty pageant held last December 13.
Competing against 92 other contenders, the 24-year-old stole the show. In her hot pink swimsuit, Catriona made a full twirl as she walked down the ramp, and the twirl was done with a twist; she slowed slightly in the middle of her twirling motion and again faced the cheering crowd with a hair flip. Catriona’s “slow-mo turn” easily made its rounds online.
Catriona elicited yet another roar from the ecstatic crowd during the evening gown segment, where she wore Mak Tumang’s “Adarna” gown. The design of the gown was inspired by the legend “Ibong Adarna,” which celebrity designer Tumang likened to the phoenix; a similar magical bird from the Western mythology.
But in an exclusive interview with MBody months prior to the competition, we came to learn that the Filipino-Australian can go beyond her runway skills. Aside from being a beauty pageant titleholder, she also is a television host, singer, model, and a black belter.
During the preliminary competition, one of the Thai hosts introduced Catriona while she slayed her way in swimsuit: “Philippines is a former martial artist, who earned a black belt when she was 12 years old. Now 24, this fashion model and singer has raised funds for various charities through benefit concerts in her country and abroad.”
Catriona’s black belt is for a martial art called Choi Kwang Do, developed by martial artist Kwang Jo Choi. Founded in 1987, Choi Kwang Do is a Korean martial art that focuses on flexibility, motion, and fluid movements. It also incorporates breathing exercises, as well as forms of stretches and yoga.
Moreover, our bet is a real fitness enthusiast for having been given a Certificate in Outdoor Recreation. This is apart from her Masters Certificate in Music Theory which she also received from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA.
Imparting a strong sense of well-roundedness, Catriona also admits to loving arts in the forms of sketching, painting, and writing.
Indeed, Catriona is a fighter both on the stage and in real life. She is a queen, with or without a crown. But we’re almost certain she’ll wear one soon.
