Living an active life guarantees good health, but it doesn’t assure good hygiene. Getting into various sports and outdoor adventures comes with a conscious effort in remaining hygienic, and such is no easy task considering the Philippines’ climate.
Maintaining a fit physique is no child’s play. Moreover, it takes sweat, blood, and tears to achieve one’s ideal form, and in the process, remaining fresh is often compromised. Perspiration, or the process of sweating, is natural, but having body odor is preventable.
Several factors contribute to the unpleasant smell of the body: a person’s physical activities, diet, health condition, and medication among others. But maybe the most unheeded, and perhaps the most obvious, is what one wears.
In an afternoon of intense ball games, held in Kerry Sports Manila last week, keeping a long-lasting refreshing scent amidst prolonged physical activities was put to test. Launching what’s tagged as the first and only fabric enhancer in the world with 24-hour odor protection technology, the new Downy Sports convened fitness enthusiasts and personalities to prove the claim.
Team leaders Alex Gonzaga—whose members include Thirdy Ravena, Michele Gumabao, Japoy Lizardo, Jeff Chan, and Robert Bolick among others—and Nico Bolzico—along with teammates Kianna Dy, Anton del Rosario, Marc Pingris, LA Tenorio, and JC Intal among others—wore jerseys rinsed with the product.
Hours after, having gone through lay-up matches, a dribbling obstacle course, and a basketball game that went on an overtime, celebrity vlogger Alex and squad emerged victorious. Yet all the others were just as triumphant, as they all seemed fresh and smelled good after sweating it out.
Asked about the relevance of smelling good while in a game, Nico reasons that contact sports are not played alone. “I know that if I smelled bad, it’s not good for my teammates or the other team. You kind of lose a little bit of confidence because you start getting distracted. You have to be mentally focused on the game,” he relays.
As active as she is, Alex echoes the same sentiment. “Now I know I’ll get to stay fresh all day—whether it’s for sports or for the everyday hustle with tapings, vlogging, events, and shopping,” she adds.
With the growing interest of Filipinos in fitness and wellness, Downy Sports comes in handy to prevent sweaty situations from turning us into reeking and stinky individuals, be it in the gym, the court, or anywhere outdoor.
Looking fit is one thing, smelling good is another. Don’t let stench get in the way of your holistic wellness.
