Having played quarterback, who led several European and North American football teams to many tournament championships, Filipino-Canadian Luke Zetazate has had his fair share of overseas adventure. But amidst his conquest to go places remains his love for the motherland; in 2015, Luke joined Pilipinas Aguilas and eventually won their first ever international game (against Korea Tigers).
With his experience as a professional football player and coach, Luke is of admirable physique. Standing at 5’11, a The Balcony model, and an online fitness coach on the side, Luke’s attention to health and wellness is as fastidious as it can get. His estimable built reflects his interest in weightlifting, bodybuilding, and sprinting—just a few among his fitness activities.
Before he trains for his next football season and embarks on yet another journey in the West, the 38-year-old plans to see some Philippine islands come summer. Here, MBody asks Luke how he remains fit for the season.
How have you been preparing for summer?
I don’t prepare for summer. I generally try to stay lean year round and perform at a high level. I don’t believe in gaining a bunch of mass only to cut down. I would rather gradually and slowly build a lean mass.
Do you follow a specific diet plan to help you achieve your goals? Tell us about it.
Yes, I follow a specific plan that’s wired to my neurotype. Your neurotype drives your behaviours. We are not all wired the same. Usually a low-carb diet with planned carb refeeds. My body responds well to a higher fat diet.
What specific workout routines do you do the most to achieve a summer-ready body?
I usually do a lot of compound lifts with low reps, high intensity in a circuit fashion. If I have any weak points, I will do a few isolations.
