Having been introduced to various sports at a young age, Jules Aquino is fitness personified; a paragon of wellness, even. With his conscious effort to maintain a laudable physique—achieved through his handful of fitness activities that include running, yoga, plyometrics, high intensity interval training, calisthenics, and animal flow among others—this 26-year-old model and fitness coach has arguably one of the best forms among his like-minded peers. Expecting him to emerge as the male grand winner of the Century Tuna Superbods in April last year was a no-brainer.
Jules’s commitment to healthy living goes beyond mere interest. In an email interview, Jules reveals that he still is a student, taking the remaining thesis units of his Sports Science degree in University of the Philippines Diliman, where he also is a track and field varsity athlete. With his scholastic background, Jules is cognizant of both the theoretical knowledge and the practical know-how of keeping in shape. Currently serving as the team captain of Adidas Runners Manila, Jules knows that he still has a long way to go. Here, Jules shares with MBody his continued pursuit of active lifestyle, especially for summer.
How have you been preparing for summer?
This past week I’ve been trying to get my priorities straight and getting organized so I can make more time to be fit and healthy. Things I need improvement on include getting proper nutrition and enough rest—these are things people tend to neglect when trying to achieve body and health goals.
Do you follow a specific diet plan to help you achieve your goals? Tell us about it.
I don’t really focus on what to eat and what not to eat. I simply try to make sure I’m getting enough of what I need so my mind and body don’t suffer when I’m being physically active.
What specific workout routines do you do the most to achieve a summer-ready body?
For me, it’s actually not about achieving a “summer-ready body.” I involve myself in physical activities simply because it’s fun. I like being able to move well in any given situation. I really believe that being fit and healthy is key to living your best life! You have less limits when you’re strong.
With all these preparations, how do you intend to spend your summer?
I haven’t made plans yet for the summer. I’m currently just focused on what I need to do now, but I’m hoping for more travels! One thing for sure though, being healthy and strong is always the goal! Things are easier and more fun that way.
