Contrary to common misconception, research shows that lifting weights does not automatically make the human body bulky. But despite the scientific studies to prove the claim, many people are inclined to believe that weightlifting leads to nothing but a muscular physique. This is what drives Ida Paras to undertake a fitness journey that breaks away from norms.
As one of the Grit Girls Gang—an online fitness community that specializes in training women—this 32-year-old aims to correct misbeliefs. Formerly a cycling instructor who now works as a personal trainer, Ida’s fitness consciousness began when she engaged in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu several years ago. Since then, her life has always moved towards an active lifestyle; focusing on strength training and High Intensity Interval Training among others. She also admits to being a nutrition nerd who follows a diet that skips breakfast (interesting, we know, follow her on social media to know the specifics!).
A quick search online would show Ida’s contributed articles about fitness and nutrition. The same stories also reveal one common denominator: strong is sexy. Ida attests that lifting does not automatically bulk you up; instead, it is the best way to reshape the body.
Here on #FitnessFastTalk, Ida shares with MBody how she gains strength while losing weight.
How have you been preparing for summer?
I don’t really “prepare” for summer. I make sure to train all year and set different goals and cycles for myself. Currently I am about to end a bulk cycle and preparing for a cut season. I also plan to put up my own group workout studio.
Do you follow a specific diet plan to help you achieve your goals?
My diet is very flexible, but hitting macros is a priority for me. But I manipulate my carbs and fat as needed. I am more inclined to eat carbs at night, just because it is more efficient in terms of energy sustainability throughout the day.
What specific workout routines do you do the most to achieve a summer-ready body?
Don’t just prepare for summer, be consistent throughout the year.
With all these summer preparations, what are your plans for the season?
Nothing set in stone but I most probably will hit the beach and have lots barbecue parties!
