For a long time, the Seven Kingdoms have only been warned of its forthcoming; now on its eighth and final season, it has arrived: winter is here.
Returning to the television screens last April 14, 2019, Game of Thrones (GoT) has consistently taken the Internet by storm, with people sharing countless content about it—from memes, throwback posts, behind-the-scene updates, to fan theories.
Only on its third episode, Got remains relentless; the inevitability of tragic deaths in the Battle of Winterfell has finally unfolded. Expectedly, the epic war has dominated not only in the Westeros but also in the top trending topics worldwide, and is expected to remain there in the next few days.
Along with it comes another arrival of a highly anticipated event: the release of Game of Thrones-inspired sneakers. In collaboration with HBO, adidas Running has designed its latest collection of six-limited Ultraboost with the features of GoT’s iconic houses and their noble families—each representing the characteristics, color motif, and details of the characters to which they refer. Details include the warring factions’ sigil on the tongue and motto on the heel tag.
Each shoe comes with strikingly bold and distinct colorways, which render them visually appealing. That, in addition to the performance-oriented footwear technology of the brand, makes the collection perfect for both casual and active wear.
Other signature features that the collection retains are the midsole technology for unlimited energy return, a Primeknit upper for lightweight performance, and the iconic heel counter for adaptability and support.
In its pursuit to go beyond its primary platform, adidas considers its shoe merchandise as a canvas to tell a story—in this case is the tale of George R. R. Martin’s best-selling book. The collaboration is also adidas’s way to get into modern popular culture, which HBO has long been doing through its offerings of shows that continually change the entertainment landscape.
Since the beginning of GoT in 2011, it has become one of the most renowned medieval fantasy epics in television history. With only six episodes left in the final season, fans already feel separation anxiety ahead of its premiere. This limited collection is one good remembrance of the story, time and again.
Regardless of the kingdom you support, and whether you are an athlete, a sneakerhead, a fashionista, or just a casual fan—these GoT-isnpired sneakers suit all styles of OOTD. And who knows, wearing them can make you just as worthy as the rival families to sit on the Iron Throne.
The limited-edition adidas x Game of Thrones Ultraboost has been made available exclusively at adidas.com and select retailers last March 22, 2019.
