With more than a decade of experience in personal training, which he incorporates with public speaking to reach and motivate more people, Jose Villablanca surely walks his talk.
A typical skinny teenager when he was around 18 years old, he took it upon himself to achieve personal transformation on many levels. Only less than a month after he finished college in De La Salle University with a degree on Physical Education Major in Sports and Recreation Management, he left for Canada and was later certified as a fitness expert. Now at 34, Jose offers his self-developed program to fellow countrymen who aspire to effect positive life changes.
As he goes by the moniker Holistic Jose, his approach in pursuing active lifestyle goes beyond improving one’s physique. Along with his sister Joanne Villablanca, the siblings are relentless in innovating the fitness industry through Holistic Jos—an overall wellness program that aims to achieve a balanced and fulfilled life through holistic lifestyle coaching.
The program focuses on one’s personalized exercise routines, proper rest and sleep, stress management, nutrition, digestion, and detoxification among others. As a public speaker, he touches on the same points to encourage group fitness, corporate wellness, and employee engagement.
Jose believes that mental health is as important as the physical well-being. Here on MBody’s #FitnessFastTalk, he shares how he intends to practice even in summer what he’s been preaching.
How have you been preparing for summer?
Just eating clean and training dirty. I always make time for myself before other social gatherings with friends. I also play basketball whenever I get the chance.
Do you follow a specific diet plan to help you achieve your goals?
I do my best to follow my metabolic typing diet. I try to assess what my macro needs are every month, which change as my work or lifestyle demands do, too.
What specific workout routines do you do the most to achieve a summer-ready body?
Functional training and full of complex movements. I make sure I work all planes of motion so I hit all angles of the muscle group I’m working on.
With all these summer preparations, what are your plans for the season?
No plans really. I fill up my schedule with work first. When I have free time, that’s when I look on how I can improve myself by reading non-fiction books, or listening to audio books. Once my mind is loaded with all the new information I just learned, I make sure I squeeze in some R&R time; be it a staycation, a trip to a foreign place, or some travels to keep my mind away from work.
