Standing at 6-foot-8, Ateneo’s Tony Koyfman demands attention. But the towering spiker is more than just his insurmountable stature.
When he first came in UAAP last 2017, he easily established himself as a force to be reckoned with—even clinching the Finals MVP plum of season 79. Now on he’s last playing year, Koyfman is determined to bring the championship title back to Katipunan.
Before he sets foot on the UAAP taraflex and wreaks havoc against UP on Saturday, April 6, let’s get to know more about this Psychology undergraduate of the Blue Eagles here on MBody’s #BeyondTheCourt.
How do you manage your time in academics and training?
It’s definitely been difficult. I always make sure I go to the study hall within the Blue Eagle gym. School comes first, because if it wasn’t for studying, I won’t even be here.
What’s your favorite subject?
I actually got an A in my last subject in Filipino. But my favorite subject would be Counselling Psychology.
Do you play other sports apart from volleyball?
I used to be a baseball player. I can also play basketball if people ask me to. But I’m not as great as I should be or as people would assume.
What do you do off season?
If I ever do get the chance to have an official day off, I like to travel. Whether be around the Philippines or maybe internationally. Travel is always the most fun thing to do.
What’s your favorite travel destination?
Philippines is still the number one place; whether you’re going to provinces like Palawan, Boracay, or even Calaguas. Any province, there’s always so much to see and food to try. Everything is just masarap and wonderful.
On your cheat days, what do you usually crave for?
Chocolate. Chocolate. Chocolate.
What’s the social media platform that you use the most and why?
I usually use Facebook for school purposes only. I am starting to get more into Instagram, and sometimes Twitter as well.
What’s something that’s always in your bag?
Shoes. And ironically I can only carry one pair of shoes because it’s just so big. Also, my iPad for academic purposes.
What’s your usual Spotify playlist?
I have to go with Honne (electric music duo). It’s just a good vibing band. Whenever I listen to it, I always feel good and motivated to do more.
When you want to be motivated, what movies/books do you get inspiration from?
Robert de Niro and Joe Pesci’s Goodfellas. Legendary.
What do you want to do after college?
At the moment, it’s still up in the air. I definitely would like to work, whether it will be here in the Philippines, or back home. Volleyball is also uncertain, if I can play here still or overseas, I will definitely take the chance. If I can do them hand in hand, play volleyball and work at the same time, that would be great.
Any specific career?
I’m not 100% sure if I’ll follow through within Psychology. But maybe HR.
Special thanks to John Cas.
